Do I require a visa?
Citizens of certain countries require a visa to enter Ireland. The visa requirement applies to holders of both ordinary national passports and diplomatic passports.
You should be aware that Ireland is not a participant in the Schengen Agreement, and therefore a separate visa is required for Ireland. Those travelling to Ireland through a third country may require transit visas, and you should check this with the authorities of the relevant country prior to your departure.

When should I apply for a visa?
It is not possible to apply for a visa on arrival in Ireland. Visas must be issued in advance.
If you are resident in a country which has a resident Irish Embassy or Consulate, you should apply for your visa two weeks before you wish to travel to Ireland.
However, if your application needs to be sent to an Embassy/Visa Office in another country or sent back to Dublin for decision you should allow ample time for postage. We recommend that you make the application four weeks before you wish to travel.
What Type of Visa Do I Need?
You should apply for a short stay (C Type) Conference Visa, and you should clearly note your purpose for travel as participation in the Dublin Diplomatic Conference on Cluster Munitions.
In general a single entry visa will suffice for delegates. However, if you plan to travel anywhere outside Ireland temporarily during your stay for the Conference you should apply for a multiple entry visa, and provide further documentation as to your plans.
How do I apply for a visa?
Ireland is in the process of rolling out a new visa system to its Missions abroad on a phased basis. The new system includes the facility to fill in your application form online. list of countries the residents of which can now apply on line.
If you are resident in one of these countries you can proceed to fill in your application form online. Once you submit your application form online you should print off the online application summary sheet that will give you your unique application number, and lodge the signed summary sheet together with the documentation required at the relevant Embassy/Consulate/Visa Office.
All other applicants should apply using a visa application form (downloadable version). An information sheet to assist applicants filling in the form is also available in Arabic, English, Chinese, French, Russian and Urdu.
Visa applications should be submitted to the Irish Embassy or Consulate in, or accredited to, the country in which you normally reside. list of Irish Embassies and Consulates.
If there is no Irish Embassy or Consulate in your country of permanent residence or home State, please contact your nearest Irish Embassy or Consulate for further information as to where your application should be sent.

Documentation Required
- An application form or online summary sheet (see above for details of who can
complete an application online);
- 2 recent passport sized photographs;
- Your current passport; and
- A letter of despatch from your Government, Organisation or from UNDP confirming your attendance at the Conference
Application Fee
The visa application fee for a single entry visa is €60. The Government of Ireland will waive visa fees for accredited delegates.
